Banking Motorsport


The concrete banking, last used by Formula One cars in 1961. Its 45-degree slope allowed the cars to tackle this section of the track flat-out, at speeds of more than 160mph, which placed incredible loads on pretty unsophisticated suspension layouts. The death toll was high and this section of track claimed the life of Alberto Ascari, Italy's last world drivers' champion.
